Celebrating National Disability Voter Registration Week

July 16-20, 2018

REV UP! Register, Educate, Vote, Use Your Power is a national effort to increase the number of people with disabilities who are engaged in the political process. There are 4 million Texans with disabilities whose lives represent a powerful and important constituency.

The Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living (CBCIL) and our partners the League of Women Voters, The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, and the Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County are hosting several voter registration events over the next week, to ensure people with disabilities become registered to vote.

National Disability Voter Registration Week Schedule of Events:

July 16, 2018 10-2:00 Kick off Voter Registration at CBCIL 1537 Seventh St.

July 17, 2018 11:30 City Council Proclamation – Council Chambers

July 18, 2018 10-2:00 Voter Registration at The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center 5151 McArdle Rd.

July 19, 2018 11:30 – 1:00 League of Women Voters Luncheon with Guest Speaker Molly Broadway of Disability Rights Texas ($12 and RSVP required)

July 20, 2018 10-2:00 Voter Registration at CBCIL 1537 Seventh Street.

Demonstration voting machines will be on site as well as information of how to get a voter ID, ballots by mail and other voting rights education.

IMPORTANCE: There were 35.4 million eligible voters with disabilities in 2016. A politically engaged disability community can make elected officials think twice before they infringe on our rights, access, and choice to live in the community. Voting can protect the issues people with disabilities care about, especially at the state and local levels.
